The Importance of Regular Toyota Service

Toyota Maintenance Near Chicago

Keeping up on car maintenance is one of the regular things that often gets forgotten in the business of every day life. Cars need regular maintenance just like any other mechanical thing. Keeping your car up to date on maintenance will help diagnose or eliminate big problems that can happen down the road, like a transmission failure, brakes that do not work, or and oil leak. If the car is not regularly taken care of, the engine could cease up and the car would not work, which could cause an accident.

Oil Changes

Taking your car to the mechanic shop to have the oil changed every three months or 3,000 miles is a vital part of keeping your engine maintenance up to date. Changing the oil gives the car a fresh batch of oil that does not have any impurities in it. This is needed for the engine to run smoothly and to keep the car safe. Typically, checking the oil allows mechanics to see how well the fluids in the engine are working together. It will also let them see if there are other problems within the engine without having it break down in traffic. These preventative measures can save you money in the long run and help keep the car running for a longer amount of time.

Brake Repair Service

Checking the brakes and the pads should be scheduled for every 5,000 miles. Depending on how hard the brakes are depressed, the pads can be ripped or stripped down to the metal of the wheel. If there is a squeaking sound coming from the brakes when they are used, the brakes need to be changed immediately. That squeak is the metal of the brake pad grinding against the metal of the wheel. Having no cushion between the two metals makes it very hard to use the brakes in traffic when they are needed.

This brake check should include a check of the hydraulic system so that there is no problem within the system. The preventative checks for brakes will also help keep the car safe during long trips and keep the car in alignment.

Battery Replacement

Replacing the battery of your car is wise preventative maintenance. The life of your battery can be drastically reduced due to weather conditions, especially in Chicago's coldest of winters. Even the salt from the roads and ocean can corrode the battery and the wires. That leaves holes in the cables and can cause interference with the connection between the battery and the engine. Replacing the battery every four years is the ideal time frame for both situations. That four-year span takes a toll on the battery; so keeping to the scheduled maintenance is critical to your car’s life span. If you have to jump your car battery, you need to replace it quickly.

The battery is one of the most vital parts of your vehicle. However, all too often our busy schedules prevent vehicle owners from remembering to check or replace their battery. In the worst cases this can leave you stranded when you least expect it - hopefully it will be in your driveway and will simply be an inconvenience. If your battery fails during the winter or a neighborhood you are unfamiliar with or during a road trip - these cases can become more dangerous
